Experience

2020

Tutor

University Writing Center, California State University of Long Beach

  • Guided one-on-one tutoring sessions with students where we practiced brainstorming, drafting, and formatting methods to improve their writing. During these collaborative sessions, students would prepare internship and college applications which led to success in obtaining their internship or acceptance.

  • Conducted tutoring sessions online via Zoom and used whiteboard, annotations, and the chat to share edits, resource links, and comments with tutees to provide constructive feedback overcoming any technical and communication issues. These tools allowed students to learn the rules of grammar and grammar hacks they can use when they later revise and proofread.

2020

Graduate Intern

Long Beach City College Workforce Development Career Center

  • Mentored students remotely on professional development by giving them feedback on resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation. During these meetings, students were given tips to closely read the job description and research the company mission statement; because of these actions, students felt prepared to apply for the job and secure an interview.

  • Aided in the career center's daily operations by cold calling potential employers and organizations to join the Job Utilization Board Career Coach, updated students’ information on Salesforce and Excel, and developed outreach to students through Salesforce and Outlook. These tasks caused an increase in traffic/presence on social media platforms, workshops, and professional development sessions.

  • Revised the LBCC Career Center’s catalog on PowerPoint Presentations, flyers, and handouts on resumes, cover letters and interview conduct. The updated catalog created an opportunity for students to access updated methods and writing templates when applying for a job or contacting a professional or an employer. Led virtual workshop presentations, which provided an online forum at the end for students to ask questions, connect with staff, or connect with other students in their field.

2015-2016

Daily Bruin Staff Writer

University of California, Los Angeles

  • Contributed articles for the politics beat; part of the responsibilities as a writer was pitching fresh ideas, meeting deadlines, and relying on strategic research strategies to connect with many people for interviews in a fast-paced environment to meet demands. These tasks influenced the writing to be effective, lively, compelling summaries, headlines, and captions to catch the audience's attention.

  • Promoted articles on various social media; used tags and links to increase audience engagement and traffic. Attended Undergraduate Student Association Council meetings and reported upcoming and proposed campus events, concerns, and ideas to help readers understand campus politics. These strategies caused a routine to connect with people quickly in various forms of communication such as social media, email, cell, and slack.
